A thick and creamy autumn-inspired smoothie filled with warming spices and blood sugar stabilizing ingredients.
This smoothie tastes like fall in a glass, so what’s not to love? It’s been my go-to post workout fuel the past few weeks and I am absolutely obsessed. It’s incredibly thick and creamy with a delicious sweet and spiced flavor that seriously makes it taste like dessert!
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that I’m pretty obsessed with smoothies. Having them for breakfast gives me so much energy because they’re such a good way to pack so many nutrients into one meal. This smoothie is a great balance of protein from protein powder, complex carbohydrates from sweet potato, and fat from nut butter, which together will help keep you satisfied and your blood sugars stable.
I love having this smoothie after a workout because the sweet potato is a great source of carbohydrates. As someone who doesn’t like things too sweet, I usually make smoothie with little to no fruit, which often means they are lower in carbohydrates. Sweet potato is perfect because it adds a subtle sweetness without making it overly sweet with the protein powder.
For both the sweet potato and the cauliflower, I steam them before freezing. I find this is easier on digestion and helps them blend better to create the best consistency. I steam big batches of veggies on the weekend to make low sugar smoothies all week long like this, or my Fruit Free Chocolate Shake!
I can’t wait for you to try this recipe! As always, comment below or reach out on Instagram to let me know what you think!
- ½ cup sweet potato, steamed then frozen
- ½ cup frozen coconut*
- ⅓ cup cauliflower, steamed then frozen (sub frozen banana if you like things sweeter)
- 1 serving vanilla or chocolate protein (my favorite proteins are the Navitas Essential Superfood Blends)
- 2 tbsp nut butter**
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- pinch of sea salt
- 1 cup almond milk
- Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until a creamy consistency is reached! This smoothie is thick, so you will likely need to stop and scrape the sides with a spatula a few times. Add more almond milk as necessary to blend.
