Turmeric milk, golden milk, turmeric latte… whatever you call it, it’s an obsession of mine! This smoothie combines the incredible flavors of turmeric milk with the cold creamy deliciousness of frozen banana to create a delicious anti inflammatory milkshake. I love this smoothie because it’s so different from any smoothie I’ve ever tried or purchased before. It showcases some of my favorite spices that make it perfect to sip on in the fall and winter, and packs amazing health benefits. If you’re looking for an easy breakfast or snack to provide lots of nourishment amidst the holidays, this smoothie is for you!
If you aren’t familiar with turmeric, it has so many incredible benefits that make it one of my favorite spices! I love using it in everything from cauliflower rice and quinoa, to cookies and smoothies. Aside from the health benefits, it adds an amazing golden color to everything and a unique pungent flavor. The main ingredient in turmeric that makes it so great is curcumin, which is an extremely powerful anti inflammatory and antioxidant. Turmeric has been used for years medicinally as a natural replacement for prescription drugs. So many diseases including arthritis, high cholesterol, chronic pain, and cancer can be the result of inflammation, which is why anti inflammatory spices like turmeric are so great.
This smoothie will not only taste delicious, but will give your body so much goodness! Bananas are rich in potassium and great pre or post workout because they have carbohydrates, which are what give you energy! Honey has amazing antiviral and antimicrobial properties which with the turmeric make this smoothie the perfect thing to have when you’re sick or feeling like you’re coming down with a cold. Black pepper increases the body’s ability to absorb turmeric and cinnamon naturally helps the body digest sugar to prevent spikes in glucose levels. Almond butter and coconut butter add healthy fats, which are essential to a balanced diet, as they help your metabolism and keep you feeling full. Not to mention they make this smoothie incredibly creamy! Hemp seeds add great protein, but if you’re eating this as a meal, feel free to add more hemp seeds or your favorite protein powder for an extra dose of protein, especially if you’re enjoying this post workout.
I know frozen cauliflower may seem weird, but trust me, when combined with the frozen banana, it creates the most incredible texture, that seriously makes this smoothie ten times better. It’s smooth, creamy, and thick, making it really feel like a milkshake! I can’t wait for you to try this recipe, and I hope you love it as much as I do!
