A thick, antioxidant filled smoothie packed with berries and cacao that is perfect to kick start the day. Berries and chocolate for breakfast–need I say any more? The tartness of berries with the richness of chocolate makes for the most delicious combination! I love melting really dark chocolate and drizzling it over berries for dessert, so this smoothie flavor felt like it needed to happen.
Smoothies have been on repeat for the last few months for breakfast. They give me so much energy in the morning and take less than 5 minutes to throw together, so whether I need quick fuel after a workout or am taking one on the go for my drive to school, they’re my absolute favorite!
This smoothie is packed with superfoods including fiber rich ground flax and antioxidant filled cacao powder. For protein, I used my favorite Philosophie Cacao Magic and Berry Bliss powders, which are each packed with goodness of their own like reishi, maca, and camu camu.
The Philosophie protein powders are some of my favorite because they are completely unsweetened and contain no additives. Most protein powders contain at least one ingredient you can’t pronounce, but these are made with simple ingredients like hemp protein, brown rice protein, and superfoods. Because they are unsweetened, they are relatively mild in taste, so they’re super versatile!
The thick, creamy texture of this smoothie is to die for. Using frozen ingredients like frozen berries, frozen banana, and frozen cauliflower gives it the consistency of a milkshake. The cauliflower can be left out, but I highly encourage it because it adds extra nutrients, thickness, and you won’t taste it! If you’re new to using vegetables in smoothies, check out this post.
Cashew butter is another one of my favorite smoothies additions. It tastes almost like cake batter and gives the smoothie the nuttiness and creaminess it needs to contrast the strong, tart flavors of the berries and cacao. Not to mention, it’s filled with healthy fats, which help slow the digestion of sugar, increase satiety, and promote healthy hair, skin, and nails.

- 1 handful spinach
- ½ banana
- ½ cup frozen berries (I love using blueberries and raspberries)
- ½ cup steamed + frozen cauliflower
- 1 tbsp ground flax
- 2 tsp Philosophie Cacao Magic (or sub your favorite protein)
- 2 tsp Philosophie Berry Bliss (or sub your favorite protein)
- 1 tbsp cashew butter
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp cacao powder
- Place all the ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until thick, creamy, and smooth. You may need to stop and scrape the sides a few times.
- Drink as is or top with your favorite toppings–I'm a huge fan of cacao nibs and extra nut butter. Enjoy!
